Mayfly Film Festival

The Schoharie River Center presents the first annual Mayfly Film Festival, Saturday, May 13th, 6pm, at Wayward Brewing, 255 Ward Lane, Schoharie, NY.

The Mayfly Film Festival features a diverse program of international short films showcasing stories of sustainability, stewardship, and the environment. The program features 12 short films from all over the US, Europe, Australia, and Africa, all centered around different environmental issues.

The Schoharie River Center wanted to create a short film program that was inspiring, urgent, and entertaining. Instead of a one night only event, we wanted to expand access to the festival and broaden the audience by bringing this important program to multiple cities in the Capital Region and surrounding areas.

Trying to connect to local environmental issues and concerns, the Schoharie River Center will also be tabling with information on local efforts and environmental educational programs. We are also partnering with local organizations at each event to share what they are working on locally, and how audience members can get involved.

The Mayfly is an insect that is very susceptible to pollutants. When researching water quality, the presence of Mayflies can indicate that the water is less polluted or getting cleaner. They have existed since before the dinosaurs, and we hope that our actions will lead to seeing them around well into the future. We believe that this sensitive and ancient species is a perfect mascot for our delicate environment and all the issues surrounding its survival.
